Rex A. Hammarback

Rex A. Hammarback is a member of the Minnesota Bar Association, State Bar Association of North Dakota, and the Greater Grand Forks County Bar Association. Rex is licensed to practice law in state and federal courts in Minnesota and North Dakota, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

 

Rex has broad experience in the general practice of law, including civil litigation involving complex aviation crash cases and federal civil rights claims involving airports. He is a talented litigator, having defended wrongful death, serious personal injury, and medical malpractice cases, as well as multiparty, multi-state cases involving claims in excess of several million dollars.

 

Rex has served as a member on the board of directors for several public corporations, public nonprofit corporations, and charitable organizations, and as chief operational officer for a multimillion dollar corporation. His extensive experience includes, annual budgeting, private and public lending, personnel recruitment and hiring, officers and directors liability, real estate transactions, research and development contracts, and contract dispute resolution.

 

Rex has probated complex estates in Minnesota and North Dakota. Having served as an agency seminar specialist for Lutheran Brotherhood, a fraternal benefit insurance company, in the 1990s, he reviewed hundreds of estates for estate planning purposes. Rex also presents seminars on estate planning.

 

Rex was born in Ada, Minnesota, and attended public schools in Ada; Anchorage, Alaska; Eugene, Oregon; and Crookston, Minnesota where he graduated from Crookston High School in 1972. Rex received his bachelor’s degree with honors from North Dakota State University, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society. He earned his degree of Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law.

 

Rex is a licensed airline transport pilot and holds a type rating in the Cessna Citation Corporate Jet. Experimental aircraft authorizations for the AeroV. L 39 jet and the North American T28. He has over 5,000 hours of flight experience in over 85 different types of aircraft. Previously, he was a registered securities representative licensed by the National Association of Securities Dealers.

 

Rex has extensive experience in international business transactions. That experience includes numerous aerospace industry products and services.

Cassie R. Scheving

Cassie R. Scheving is the shareholder of Hammarback & Scheving, P.L.C. A native of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Cassie is licensed to practice law in Minnesota and North Dakota State Courts.

 

Cassie earned her degree of Juris Doctor with distinction from the University of North Dakota School of Law. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. During her law school career, Cassie practiced with the University of North Dakota Clinical Legal Education Program and was President of Law Women's Caucus.

 

Cassie is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the State Bar Association of North Dakota, the Randy H. Lee Inns of Court, and is Vice President of the Greater Grand Forks County Bar Association.

Cassie is also the president of the Northern Plains Chapter of Huntington's Disease Society of America.

Samuel A. Gereszek

Samuel A. Gereszek is an associate at Hammarback & Scheving, P.L.C. Sam graduated with distinction from the University Of North Dakota School of Law. He was also a member of the Order of the Barristers, Moot Court Board, and participated in many organizations within the law school including President of the Criminal Law Association and Student Trial Lawyers Association. Upon graduating from law school, Sam re-entered the military via a full-time position with the North Dakota Army National Guard recruiting and training future military officers through the Reserve Officer Training Course on the University of North Dakota Campus. After serving a three year contracted tour, Sam decided to forego the military way of life and pursue his passion, the law.

 

Sam is a member of the State Bar Association of North Dakota, a member of the Randy H. Lee Inns of Court, and the Greater Grand Forks County Bar Association. Sam's primary field of practice is criminal defense and appellate work.

Karyn A. Novak

Karyn A. Novak is an associate at Hammarback & Scheving, P.L.C. Karyn is a native of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Karyn graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Studies. She then earned her Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law. During her law school career, Karyn was Secretary of the Public Interest Law Student Assiciation and an active member of the Law Women's Caucus.

 

Karyn is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the State Bar Association of North Dakota, a member of the Randy H. Lee Inns of Court, and the Greater Grand Forks County Bar Association. Karyn's primary area of practice of family law.
